Week 6: Bridge Walks, Young Professionals Social, and Galentine's Day

 Monday, February 8-Sunday, February 14

Note: Thank you all for patiently awaiting this week's blog post! We have been so busy creating content for next week that we got a bit ahead of ourselves.

This week's activities got off to an early start. On Tuesday, the three of us met up with Margo Bourn '24, a freshman interning at NASSCO's shipyard and completed the Seven Bridge Walk. This is a quaint, five-mile urban walk features some of San Diego's neighborhoods, museums, parks, and canyons. (reference link).

Famished, we stopped by Nishiki Ramen for some much needed fuel. There, we fulfilled Dillon's craving for fries with the best fries any of us had ever had.

On Thursday, we returned to Sunset Cliffs to watch the sunset after work. After a fun zoom meeting from my car, we picked up dinner at Mad Munch Grilled Cheezer Co.

Friday we partook in happy hour at Bay Hill Tavern where we sampled some funky cocktails bearing names such as Space Jam and DNA Test.

Saturday, we attended a Young Professionals' Winter Hang-out hosted by Nick Ratinaud '18 in Balboa Park. We were super thankful for this wonderful opportunity to reconnect with Webb alumni, meet some new ones, and enjoy some juicy grilled carne asada and pineapple.

Sunday morning, we headed for an brief hike on the Guy Fleming Trail located in Torrey Pines State Reserve before heading off to our respective Valentine's Day plans. The Guy Fleming Trail was an incredible quick walk, with some stunning views.

Excuse the squint sunny San Diego is too much for my Michigander eyes

Daniel and I joined Isa Hill '20 and Megan Green '18 at Isa's apartment to celebrate Galentine's Day with some incredible food--including Crack Dip (an addictive, cheesy dip whose recipe was provided to me by my high school friend Kelly--thanks Kelly!) and puff pastries filled with goat cheese, garlic, and herbs. Our night also included some tasty strawberry-pink hot chocolate and an overdose of candies courtesy of Isa and Megan, respectively. We entertained ourselves by watching the third ensemble of To All the Boys I've Loved Before. (Warning: you may need to check your blood sugar after viewing the following images!)

Meanwhile, Dillon went on a date to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park with Chris Bal '20. (Pictures courtesy of Chris.)

In regards to work--which I promise is what we are doing a majority of the time, despite our pictures suggesting otherwise--we have each kept busy with our individual tasks. Dillon has begun to challenge my monopoly over ECNs (Engineering Change Notices). He has also worked on compiling overviews of secondary structural analysis. I have been developing deckhouse arrangements and learning about Military Sealift Command standards. Daniel has been learning all about the Unloading and Replenishment (UNREP) issues by going through meeting minutes from the last 5 years and compiling all the issues into one large spreadsheet database.

Next week marks our final full week at NASSCO. We are slowly marking off the final wishes on our bucket list, so look forward to an exciting and bittersweet post!
